Mehdi Azadvari, Chairman of the Iranian-Foreign Joint Investment Association, outlined a bright outlook for trade and the expansion of joint cooperation between Iran and Russia, stating that despite some obstacles, the level of relations can be expanded. The Chairman of the Iranian-Foreign Joint Investment Association highlighted joint investments in large infrastructure projects as one of the most significant opportunities in Iran-Russia relations.
Speaking to Iran Chamber Online on the sidelines of the 19th Session of the Joint Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation between Iran and the Russian Federation, Mehdi Azadvari, Chairman of the Iranian-Foreign Joint Investment Association, stated that trade relations between Iran and Russia have witnessed significant developments in recent years. These two countries, which hold special importance due to their geographical, economic, and political positions, have created new prospects for trade and investment by establishing suitable platforms for greater cooperation in various fields.
He clarified that one of the most important pillars of these relations is the Iran-Russia Joint Trade and Economic Commission, established with the aim of strengthening cooperation in economic, energy, agriculture, industry, and new technologies. Within this commission, numerous negotiations and agreements are conducted to develop bilateral relations and increase the volume of trade exchanges.
The Chairman of the Iranian-Foreign Joint Investment Association emphasized that in recent years, considering global political and economic developments, this commission has been more active than ever, especially in the fields of energy, technology transfer, and transportation infrastructure development. This has led to an increasing number of trade and investment opportunities between the two countries.
He spoke about investment opportunities for Iranians in the Russian market and identified joint investments in large infrastructure projects as one of the most significant opportunities in this regard. According to this economic activist, both Iran and Russia, with their need to develop infrastructure and utilize their natural resources, have provided a suitable platform for joint cooperation.
Azadvari added: "In Iran, huge projects are underway in the fields of energy, petrochemicals, and heavy industries, which seem particularly attractive to Russian investors. Specifically, cooperation in oil and gas extraction, as well as renewable energy projects, are among the areas where Russians play a prominent role. On the other hand, Iran can also benefit from Russian investments in technology and information fields."
This economic activist continued: "On the other hand, Russia, with its vast market and immense energy resources, has provided many opportunities for Iranian companies. Especially in sectors such as renewable energy production, heavy industries, and transportation, there are numerous opportunities for cooperation."
The Chairman of the Iranian-Foreign Joint Investment Association outlined the challenges and obstacles to trade with Russia: "Despite these opportunities, there are also obstacles and challenges that need to be overcome in strengthening trade and investment relations between the two countries. One such obstacle is economic sanctions, which have created limitations for financial and trade exchanges. This issue leads to complexities in banking and financial processes, as well as restrictions on money transfers between the two countries."
Azadvari continued: "Other obstacles include a lack of complete coordination in trade regulations, customs complexities, and differences in investment and trade laws. Therefore, there is a need for a comprehensive and coordinated approach to resolve these issues and facilitate trade processes."
This economic activist considered the future of Iran-Russia trade bright, stating: "Despite the existing challenges, the future outlook for trade and economic relations between Iran and Russia appears positive. Especially considering global political and economic developments, both countries are seeking to strengthen their relations and establish a more effective position in global markets."
The Chairman of the Iranian-Foreign Joint Investment Association said: "To capitalize on these opportunities, there is a need for further development and facilitation of communication between the public and private sectors of both countries. By establishing supportive mechanisms and reducing legal and executive obstacles, continuous and sustainable growth in Iran-Russia trade and investment relations can be hoped for."
